Warrington school eco hut

This little fairytale hut is based on a layout the kids did. It will be built by the community with their assistance. We asked the kids what natural wall method they wanted to use at the start, and they voted for adobe!

The first idea was for a heavy timber framed building with super low density adobe infill. This concept has evolved to use more conventional materials, using what is freely available in the community in terms of donations.

Current thinking is to erect a light timber framed structure, using thicker timber members than normal, and infilling between this with super low density adobe/light earth bricks. Such a structure would receive full finishing plasters both sides for durability against the weather.

This is a fun project! It is part of the Enviroschools program, that the Earthbuilding Association of NZ is helping out with.
